April 24, 2009

Here's the official press release from Brandon's big night!

BRANDON HEATH TAKES HOME THREE MAJOR WINS AT 40TH ANNUAL
GMA DOVE AWARDS INCLUDING MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR

Heathís Blockbuster Hit ìGive Me Your Eyesî Wins Song of the Year

The Christian music industry crowned a new Male Vocalist of the Year last night at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, naming singer-songwriter and radio hitmaker Brandon Heath its honored recipient. Heathís GRAMMY-nominated hit single ìGive Me Your Eyes,î off his sophomore album What If We, was also named Song of the Year, for which Heath received a Dove trophy for co-writing the No. 1 song with Jason Ingram. The live broadcast of the 40th Annual GMA Dove Awards show aired nationwide on the Gospel Music Channel.

Backstage last night Heath said, ìI was surprised to receive Male Vocalist of the Year. With this honor, I hope my voice is not just for singing, but for teaching and confessing and questioning my own generation.î

When asked about the Song of the Year win, he added, ìIt was an honor to share this award with my friend Jason Ingram. I consider myself blessed to be able to write songs that encourage and challenge others. It feels great to know that you are making a difference in the world.î

ìGive Me Your Eyes,î spent 14 weeks at No.1 on Billboardís Hot Christian AC radio chart, and 27 weeks at No. 1 on iTunes Christian Song Chart, during a 7-month run at the top of the download chart following the songís release in July 2008. To date, the albumís breakout first single continues to lead digitally selling more than 310,000 total downloads of the track across all digital providers. The second single ìWait and Seeî is now climbing radio and iTunes charts.

A third win for Heath came in the Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song for performing and writing ìGive Me Your Eyes.î

Brandon Heath was also one of the few artists selected to perform live on the telecast. Heath performed his giant, award-winning song ìGive Me Your Eyesî with a full production supported by a unique step-number by members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Chi Chapter of Fisk University, and a local competitive female step team.

awesome to hear the testimonies about your song! praise the Lord that you got an award for it too, btw. My ipod ALWAYS seems to play "Give Me Your Eyes" when I get to my school, which I practically grew up at because we had baseball behind it when I grew up. lol. I've seen millions of faces there, I'm sure.

The song "Wait and see" is a lot like my life story. I was born in Texas and it's a miracle that I'm alive today. I've gone through my ups and downs through school and though I'm not a man I feel I have to "man up" all to often for someone my age. Every time I hear this song I think of how God has helped me and how I can bless others with what's happened to me and my experiences. I feel very blessed to know that I am not the only one who has gone through the things I have. 13 year olds can only do so much for their family.
Thank you Brandon! I pray that God blesses you and your family every day!

Give me your eyes has diffently touched our lives. I was born in Bangkok, Thailand and came to the US when I was a little boy. Through the grace of God, I recieved Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
I was told by a missionary Pastor why he believes it is so hard to have the word of God penetrate and stick in the countries that are Islamic, Buddhists, or Hinduism. He told me that all the support and focus are on the women and little girls that have been abused, raped, and cast out on the streets. Hardly any organizations have a specific focus for the men or the boys who are lost. In a third world nation, the men are truly the ruler of the household. Let’s say a Christian woman happens to fall in love and marries a Buddhists husband her chances of staying a Christian is very slim to none. Custom dictates that she now belongs to her husband and must follow his rule on everything. Wanting to be a good wife and obey the custom of her country she will eventually give up her faith and follow that of her husband.
The focus for our mission will be to build up young boys who will grow up to be the man of God. Lead his family to God and family’s, families’ to God. That’s the most powerful way penetrate any culture is with a man of God. Leading other men to God and thus changing the whole society for Christ.
I’m Thai, I was born there I lived there for a short time, but none the less I’m Thai. I hold a US passport and I’m a US citizen, but my people, by ethnicity is Thai. God has called me to go back to my people and share my testimony with them and tell them the good news of the gospel.
My wife, who by the way is not Thai, has the same passion for the Thai people as I do. If she did not, I would not go. But because she has caught the same vision sent by God we both want to be submissive to his will and do what he has called us to do. And that is to serve Him in faith. At the end of it all, when you are gone and find yourself standing in front of God all mighty. The words I want to hear are 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Matthew 25 verse 21.
Please pray for my family and I as we accept Gods' calling to go into the mission field and change the lives of the people in Thailand for Jesus Christ.

In October of 2008, my class sang the "Give me Your Eyes" song with motions for our chapel program. This week when you receive the awards, the students celebrated because "our song," won. Congratulations!
